figuring out how to stay shiny

Nani and Lilo are also the only explicitly indigenous characters in anything produced by Disney that don’t make me want to spork someone’s eyes out.

Nani is the best Disney Princess (yeah fuck you, Princess).  She works hard, is independent and struggling to be self-sufficient, but is also caring and funny and loving.  She’s such a complex character and one of the most real ever in a Disney movie — I mean, how many Nanis are there out there struggling to make ends meet to take care of their family?  She’s just wonderful ;~;.

The first time I watched Lilo and Stitch, I cried. I have never seen the portrayal of Polynesian people in the media as anything more than  a creepy tropical fetishization, and this movie showed reality. There are plenty of indigenous families that are harassed by social services because they question whether or not we can take care of our children. Nani is the fucking shit and the film was far superior to any other disney movie I’ve ever seen.
