figuring out how to stay shiny

This is such a powerful message. It shows that verbal abuse can hurt as much as physical abuse. That saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” is, in fact, a lie, in my opinion. Words do hurt. A lot.
I am 19 years old and I have been verbally, mentally, and emotionally abused almost my whole life. Whether it was by my family or my most recent ex. To be honest with you, I’d rather get punched in the face physically. Verbal abuse has turned me into the person I am today. Insecure.
Forever reblog. I agree 100000%</3

 tears every single time

I never knew that there were people out there who could make their words sting so fucking precisely until it happened to me. I had an ex deny my sexuality, deny my independence, deny me from my friends and family, coerced me to agree to marry him, who called me a myriad of different things and would send me (who has not previous had anxiety issues) into 1-4 panic attacks each time I saw him and could also make me feel this way from over a hundred miles away.
I know everyone who has never experienced this always thinks: “Well why didn’t you just end it?” “That would never happen to me, I’d stand up for myself”“I thought that someone like you would’ve know when to say when”“I’m surprised that happened to someone like you”
….and you know what. Fuck you all.I hope you never have to experience what I did. I hope you get to stay ignorant in your baseless judgements. I hope that you stay confident for the rest of your life in the knowledge that if someone you love abuses you, that you’ll turn into the hulk and put them in their place. I hope you always believe in yourself - even in the face of violence and a partner who’s goal is to destroy you and build you into someone they want. I hope you remain naive and not have to confront the reality of what happened to me.
