figuring out how to stay shiny

There was a beautiful idea in the world - even in England, source of modern capitalism/industrialization, up until around the early 18th century - that not every bit of land had to be parceled out, owned, and protected by laws and the threat of violence. This was the Commons - land held in common that simply everyone in the area had the right use.
Nice idea.

There’s this theory called “The Tragedy of the Commons” published by Garrett Hardin and I’ve always wondered how that would mesh with radical ideologies. I’ve been learning the tragedy of the commons in environmental science classes since high school, it’s like a mainstay of the field. They teach it like it would be ludicrous to question it. It’s so bad that there are questions in our lab manual about how privatizing resources is so much better and why we think that is.
It’s just been rolling around in my head for a while. I’d love any feedback/anyone familiar with it?
