The 13.9 percent tax rate is referring to his investments - his money that makes money, not necessarily money that he has earned himself. If this school teacher made money from investments, than she probably would be paying around 13.9% percent on those, but still 25% on her earned income. This is why when Newt tries to compare the taxes that he pays to Romney, it’s not a valid comparison. Newt makes most of his money by earning it, and pays (I think) about 30% - which isn’t comparable to income of a different kind (not earned) which Romney’s 13.9% tax rate refers to.  Like I said, I get the point, but it’s important to use comparable data when making comparisons. If you’re showing the tax rate for earned income for teachers, you should show the tax rate for earned income for Romney as well. I fucking hate the way it’s set up, but don’t skew the numbers to make your point.
